DIN 18257

The national residual standard for building hardware essentially specifies the dimensions for the German market and regulates testing and labelling of security hardware.
DIN 18257 divides security fittings into resistance classes from ES 0 to ES 3. ES stands for burglar-resistant security fittings.
However, security fittings only provide optimum protection in conjunction with all individual elements of a burglar-resistant door in accordance with DIN V ENV 1627 (formerly DIN V 18103).

Classification of resistance classes

DIN 18257 Resistance class ES 0 Low Burglary resistance ES 1 Burglary resistance ES 2 High Burglary resistance ES 3 Extreme Burglary resistance

The security fitting in accordance with DIN 18257 is designed to protect the profile cylinder and mortice lock on a house or flat entrance door against unauthorised mechanical manipulation with the aim of breaking into the house/flat.
Users can choose a security fitting in the available resistance classes depending on their security needs.

The connecting elements (screw connection, pin connection) must be designed in such a way that the protective effect of the security fitting is maintained after impact tests.

It is recommended to always use security fittings with cylinder covers (ZA) because they offer a high level of protection for the profile cylinder.

In general, security fittings only provide partial protection for the door.

To ensure that edi security fittings consistently match the quality of the tested standard security fittings, production is subject to ongoing external monitoring with regular inspections.
