The predecessor to DIN EN 1906 for security fittings is DIN 18257, from which essential parts relevant to testing have been incorporated into DIN EN 1906.
The standard has been expanded to include a test for the strength of door signs. However, DIN 18257 continues to apply in some areas, including the classification and designation of the ES classification.
The requirements are essentially comparable as follows:
- DIN ES 0 = EN SK 1 (low burglary resistance)
- DIN ES 1 = EN SK 2 (burglar-resistant)
- DIN ES 2 = EN SK 3 (high burglary resistance)
- DIN ES 3 = EN SK 4 (extremely burglar-resistant)
The equivalence of DIN ES 3 = EN SK 4 differs only in the area of drill resistance testing in the outer plate.
The main requirements for the use of security fittings are that they effectively hinder break-in attempts using various methods of attack on the door fitting or cylinder.
Dieckmann produces a wide range of security fittings in all security classes in aluminium, stainless steel and PVD. The fire protection fittings are tested in accordance with DIN EN 1906, the "standard" security fittings in accordance with DIN 18257!
