ERICH DIECKMANN
Managing Director 1936 – 1970

n the 19th century, long before industrialization, the Grüner Tal near Iserlohn was an ideal site for companies dealing with processing and transformaton of different metals. Natural conditions, abundant wood and also exploitation of iron ore and calamine for manufacturing brass and bronze provided the best prerequisites for these settlements.

In the 18th century, a smelter for the coveted brass and bronze was built on the site where nowadays the company Erick Dieckmann GmbH is based.

In the 1870ies the brothers Kuhlmann built here a plant for manufacturing brass decoration fittings.

After the bankruptcy of the company Kuhlmann, on 1st May 1936, Erich Dieckmann, wholesaler and factory owner from Dortmund, purchased the company.

At the beginning of the 1940ies, a conversion of the fitting production to aluminium took place.

Together with the eldest son Dieter, in 1956, a sister company was built in Renchen near Offenburg. Today it is part of the American Ingersol Rand Group under the name NORMBAU.

In Iserlohn, with Rudolf Dieckmann, the second eldest son of the founder, the second generation joined the management.

In the first decades after formation, the company built up a good reputation in industrial B2B under the brand name edi.

At the beginning of the 1970ies, the company took the chance to open further segments in the new growth market of DIY stores.

Due to changed conditions in the beginning of the 1990ies, the company decided to focus on the old core competences and to newly define the strategic orientation.

The strategy focused again on the own product development and manufacturing in Iserlohn.
The company philosophy nows brings into focus high quality fittings from aluminium and stainless steel for doors at an adequate price with the title ” made in germany”.

New product ideas and developments, extensive innovations in the product range and substantial investments led to the aspired success of the company.

In the course of time, many old contacts to renowned traders could be revived, supported by the relations to the purchasing associations of the industrial B2B.

In the mid-nineties, with Rainer Dieckmann, the third generation assumed responsiblity for the company.

Due to the purchase of the company MAWEX GmbH in 2001, new fitting technologies for front door and window fittings could be introduced leading to possibilities for further market segments to open.

In the last twenty years, successively modern production plants were built at the Grüne site. However, manufacturing also continues in the historic buildings of the time before industrialization.

Erich Dieckmann GmbH, a company with a history of more than 75 years, feel committed to the region and its population. It is part of the philosophy and the objectives of the company to maintain industrial jobs for Iserlohn.

Long term securing of the existence of the company and sufficient value added in the Iserlohn plant are paramount in the strategic objectives despite an indispensable worldwide materials procurement.
